Dr. Albert T. W. Simeons, often called Dr. A. T. W. Simeons is the pioneering founder of the world renowned 'hCG diet'. This diet is often used to treat obesity.
He was born and raised in London, and studied medicine at the Universityof Heidelberg. After completing his general medical degree,he further studied in Germany and Switzerland for his post graduate diploma. He eventually went into tropical medicine after working in various areas of medicine. To fulfill his dream of specializing in Tropical Medicine, he enrolled in the school of Tropical medicine in Hamburg.
Dr. Simeon researched and studied ways to cure malaria, and investigated methods of staining malaria parasites, during his stay at Hamburg, for which work he was awarded the Red Cross Order of Merit in 1931 by the Queen of England.
In 1931, he moved and resided in india for 18 years, where he continued to practice medicine and where something remarkable came to his attention. While in India, he discovered that though many women seemed to be undernourished, they still gave birth to healthy babies. He also observed that their bodies still produced large amounts of human Chorionic Gonadotropin ( hCG) which was breaking down bodily fats and resupplying them to the babies resulting in healthy babies. He moved from India and settled in Rome, Italy in 1949.
Following a period of research, Dr. Simeons published 'Pounds and Inches: A New Approach to Obesity' in 1954. His theory regarding fat breakdown usually occurs during periods of starvation, but after around 90 days or so, or in pregnancy, the fats that are present around the joints and thighs break down to provide energy and nutrients. These secondary fat reserves are normally not utilised in healthy people, and can be the reason for weight gain.
So he kept working on his research and soon after that, in a different report he published after, Dr. Simeons was noticed that when it was given a low calorie diet along with hCG, it gives better results and holistic weight loss that naturally would 'reshaped' the body. His opinion was also noticed by other scientist but still, he gave the best results. And what was even stranger his patients did not feel any untoward symptoms the way they used to - like headaches, irritability, weakness, hunger pangs. He gave the conclusion that this was the secondary fat reserves that were broken down and so, it helped the subjects slim down.
Putting together his findings in his manuscript, Dr. Simeons created one of the most talked about weight loss programs on the market today. Thousands of people still use his program with excellent results. There is no doubt that what appeared to be just an observation has led to one of the major discoveries in weight loss and weight maintenance in the modern era.
