Strength training refers to any movement that increases your strength. This may mean increasing lean muscle tissue or simply definition and developing existing muscle. Lean muscle declines as we grow older unless some type of weight training is added into a person's schedule. Traditional weights may be used when training for strength, but other equipment may include elastic bands for resistance and weight machines. Athletes and players on sports groups typically engage in strength training programs. But the normal person must engage in strength training as well, as there are many benefits to the body.

Women have often not wanted to engage in weight workouts for fear of putting on too much muscle. This is a incorrect perception. Females don't have the right hormones and substances in her body to build much muscle with a standard strength building workout. It is equally vital for women to work to build strength, as it is for men.

The Benefits Of Strength Training

This training offers more benefits than simply gaining muscle mass. Results of increasing strength will be found over the entire body. People who engage in strength training have more energy, endurance, mental focus, and vitality, better sleep, happier moods, and improved confidence in themselves. These are but a small list of the good side effects, there are dozens more.

Higher Muscle Mass

Not only is muscle tissue broken down in the aging process, but as our body requires energy, lean muscle tissue is used easier than our fat. Muscle loss occurs faster with lack of use. Strength workouts delay more muscle loss and may build muscle tissue as well. Increased muscle mass boosts your metabolism, getting the body to get rid of your food quickly and more effectively. Also, your body will be more likely to get rid of fat if your muscles are being used on a consistent basis.

Bone & Joint Strength

As people age, bone mass decreases along with muscle mass. Your joints reduce in strength with expected wear and tear over time. adding resistance to your muscles improves your joints and bones. This resistance increases bone growth and repair. This will help stop bone loss leading to conditions like osteoporosis. With better joints, your risk of injury is lower.

A Stronger Core.

When parts of your abdominal area and back are strong, this helps to improve posture, ability to balance, and stability. This reduces the risk of back pain. Better posture helps the entire body work better with a straight spine. A stronger midsection also assists mind and muscle connection.
