It seems that everyone needs to find slimming success. We are told our children are obese, that many modern ills could be prevented by maintaining a normal weight, and that our sedentary lifestyle is killing us slowly. However, dieting is hard, and most of us don't want to eat right all the time. What we are looking for is a fast and easy solution to overweight.
Even though we know the secret that always works (eat less, exercise more), we spend millions on pills, special work out clothes, gym memberships, and meal replacement bars and drinks that promise us weight loss without the deprivation. No need to give up your favorite foods (even if they are eclairs and milk shakes?) and no need to exercise. Lose weight while you sleep!
Anyway, many wonder - eat less of what? Eat complex carbohydrates, or cut carbs almost entirely out. Eat high protein or shun everything but brown rice. Eat all meat, or all fruit, or all vegetables, or all fish, or no fish. Eat lots of fat, or use only low or no fat products. Eat small meals often or stick to three meals a day. Eat breakfast, or never eat before noon or after eight PM.
The advertising is deafening. You can't read a magazine or watch TV without seeing ads for programs that count points, companies that ship balanced low-calorie meals, pills that have worked wonders, and home gym equipment guaranteed to restore you to idea weight and body tone.
It is too bad, but there seems to really not be a magic pill that lets you change nothing and still lose unwanted pounds and inches. People under stress, with little time and energy for preparing healthful meals and taking brisk walks, tend to take shortcuts that work against their goals. A pill that would overcome all the negatives of sedentary living and calorie-dense meals would probably not be all that good for your body.
There really are oral preparations that help; you just need to make sure they're safe. Exceeding the dosage of otherwise safe herbs or other chemical or natural substances is dangerous. A lot of people get in trouble with with dieting aids because they do not take them as recommended.
A program of exercise combined with sensible portions of foods chosen for nutrition will help you lose weight. Some herbs or botanicals can be helpful in burning stubborn fat or suppressing your appetite. A doctor can prescribe a drug that works for those who need to lose weight for medical reasons. You need to get good advice or do your own research carefully. Then pick a plan and stick to it.
It is too bad that we gain weight so easily, especially as we get older. However, slimming success is possible. Join a group or work with a friend so you can keep on a program that will make you look and feel like yourself again.
