Lose the Wrinkles and Look Younger

By Anne Fennell

As of late, big gains have been made in the area of cosmetic procedures, and facial wrinkles are a heavy focus in this. It appears that we now live in a society where face wrinkles place you in a category of being 'old', and with more and more people now on the search for younger looking skin.

But what do wrinkle treatments involve? There are a lot of choices in where to receive these procedures, but what should a person know when considering treatment? Here we take a closer look at wrinkle treatments in general.

What are wrinkle treatments?

Our skin is constantly exposed to a number of toxic substances such as automobile fumes, smoke and even the warming rays of the sun, all of which can damage the skin. The skin forms these wrinkles that are seen on the face, and the more there is, the less attractive some people consider you to be, unfortunately.

Removing wrinkles is achieved by using botulinum toxin, as it is an effective wrinkle treatment. To remove lines, all kinds of things are considered, basic skin cream of course, laser treatments, and chemical peels are also performed. With all of these processes to be chosen from, it looks as if botox is becoming more well known all the time. However, these days anti-wrinkle creams are being advertised all the time, so while they may be popular they may not necessarily be the most effective.

What treatments make the most difference?

This is a matter of debate right now, there is no definite answer. Depending on the patient and the type of wrinkles on their face, a treatment that will help them best will be determined and administered. The effectiveness of treatments using botox injections or other dermal fillers is well known, so more and more people appear to be choosing this method.

How long do treatments last for?

This depends on the type of treatment patients decide to have. Skin creams have short lived effects and need repeat application often, sometimes daily to show any effect whatsoever. The effects of dermal fillers such as botox treatments last for months, as these methods are superior.

Price of treatment compared to effectiveness

This kind of advanced facial wrinkle treatment can't be bought with pocket change. Skin rejuvenation treatments such as botox injections, and other specialized processes can cost as much as $3000 or more, or be somewhere closer to $300, it really depends on the provider. If someone doesn't mind applying skin creams every day and buying more often, this is an option for some. Treatments over time can be more closely examined, and the cost effectiveness of each one can be determined. It looks like for treatment of facial wrinkles, dermal fillers such as botox treatments are the most economical, in the big picture. CO2 lasers are touted by certain physicians as being the treatments that are most cost effective.

Downtime following procedures

No recovery time is necessary for skin creams. However, amongst the more advanced treatments of facial wrinkles, it appears that microdermabrasion probably has the least downtime. Having said that, this does not make microdermabrasion the best treatment as multiple treatments are required that can be rather uncomfortable to the patient.

Summary

There are a lot of choices available for the treatment of facial wrinkles. There are both good and bad points for each kind of treatment. The ultimate choice will depend on the patient, what they can afford, what they are prepared to undergo and the experience of the treating healthcare professional.
