Obesity - Are You an Unconscious Overeater?

What do I mean by eating unconsciously?
Well basically many individuals who tend to over eat appear to go into some sort of a trance when they are overeating. Another way of saying this is that they are dissociated or not fully present. This is evident by the fact that they cannot truly feel, in the moment, what they are doing to themselves and to their bodies. What's more many have trouble even remembering what they ate during such periods. Try it yourself and you'll see what I mean.
Such unconscious habits tend to arise spontaneously and are often brought on by disappointing events in the present that trigger the emergence into consciousness old painful emotions or feelings from unresolved past traumatic memories or disappointments.
The tendency is for many individuals to try and "push" these old feelings "out of consciousness" by engaging various strategies. These include soothing themselves with:
1. Food.
2. Sex.
3. Drugs.
4. Cigarettes.
5. Work.
6. Television and computer games.
7. Etc.
Now because the use of food is one the earliest learned strategy for soothing one's self it has the tendency to be adopted early if early life trauma is present. It becomes especially ingrained, in my view, if one's parents used food as a way of soothing their children early on.
So the "self soothing" behavior then is essentially an activity that attempts to quench "unresolved" negative emotions that the individual continues to harbor within.
Unless these emotions are released and cleared once and for all they will continue to exert "pressure" on the individual to do something about their discomfort when they arise.
So you see this is why many weight loss programs fail i.e. they focus simply on the diet and leave out the root cause driving the emotional eating patterns.
Such emotional eating behavior can be released quickly, easily and permanently by individuals who are truly committed to doing so. This can now be done over the telephone employing a new modality called the Mind Resonance Process(TM) (MRP). To arrange an introductory consultation kindly visit the web link below.

When It Comes to Obesity, Personal Trainers Have It Wrong!

I hate to start off 'going negative' but it is illustrative and appropriate to reduce to the point of absurdity the approach used by personal trainers in general and the clown trainers on the TV show "The Biggest Loser" specifically.
Everybody wants to make a buck on the plight of the overweight. The Purposefully Primitive approach, to use an old hackneyed analogy, is to teach overweight individuals how to fish rather than sell them fish. There is an obesity epidemic in America. As pointed out in a recent New York Times article, 30% of the population is obese, obesity being defined as 30% (or more) body fat.
A 200-pound obese person holding a 30% body fat percentile would carry 60-pounds of fat. If that same individual carried a 40% body fat percentile (not uncommon) they would have 80-pounds of fat to haul around on a daily basis. Hold a pair of 30 or 40 pound dumbbells in each hand to give your self an idea of how much weight this represents in real terms. Body fat is not near as dense as iron so the space on the body needed to carry body fat is voluminous.
How to melt off adipose (fat) tissue is the subject of great controversy within the fitness community. One element of the obesity solution is the use of cardiovascular exercise to mobilize and oxidize stored body fat.
Personal trainers and fitness experts have a huge collective blind spot in that they continually mistake exercise mode for cardio method. What is the goal of cardio exercise? The systematic elevation of the heart rate for a protracted period of time on sustained basis: the benchmarks are frequency, duration, intensity.
Fitness experts force clients to become adept at a mode of exercise they are biased towards, despite the fact that the mode, jogging, is injurious, ruinous and unnecessary.
Coming soon! "The Obesity Solution" is designed to help overweight men and women physically transform themselves into healthier, thinner, more fit individuals. Designed by Marty Gallagher, a world champion coach and former washingtonpost.com fitness columnist, he will take you by the hand to help you achieve permanent fat loss.

Obesity in America - The Growing Epidemic!

Obesity is a disease that affects approximately 60 million people in the United States, where women are especially affected. Over one-third of women between the ages of 20 and 74 are obese, the majority of them being African American or Mexican American. With more and more pre-packaged food and less and less activity, the number of obese people in America has steadily increased since the 1960's.
But what is obesity? Many people think obesity means that a person is overweight, but that's not exactly true. An overweight person has a surplus amount of weight that includes muscle, bone, fat, and water. An obese person has a surplus of body fat. Most health professionals concur that a man is obese if he has over 25 percent body fat, and a woman is obese if she has over 30 percent. Women physiologically have more body fat than men, so that why there's a difference in percentage.
It is difficult to determine the exact percentage of body fat a person has, but estimates can be made in a number of ways. First, using a tweezer-like tool called a caliper, you can measure the thickness of skin folds on different points of your body and compare the results with standardized numbers. You can also use a small device that sends a harmless electrical current through your body and measures your body fat percentage. The most commonly used method to determine if a person is obese is to look at his/her Body Mass Index (BMI). A person with a BMI over 30 is considered to be obese, and a BMI over 40 is considered to be severely obese. It's important to remember though that BMI could be misleading in pregnant or lactating women and in muscular individuals.
With obesity, comes the increased risk of diseases such as high blood pressure, Type II Diabetes, heart disease, and breast, colon, and prostate cancer. In addition, obesity has been linked to mental health conditions such as depression or feelings of shame and low self-esteem. Health experts say that even losing 10 to 15 percent of your body weight can dramatically decrease the risk of developing these serious conditions. In addition, many obese people are discriminated against and targets of insults and other verbal abuse.
A number of factors, such as poor diet, lack of physical activity, genetics, and certain medical disorders, cause obesity, but it can be conquered. One major obstacle to being more physically active is motivation and accountability. Find a friend with similar fitness goals and begin a simple exercise program together. It takes time to see the results, but your health is worth it!

Obesity And Emotional Trauma

It has been said by many a therapist that we hide our pain and hurt behind our fat. It has been my experience working with a new process that in fact the fat "is" the pain and hurt. Let me explain.
As I mentioned, many therapists have believed that individuals unconsciously make themselves unattractive or unappealing to others by putting on the pounds. Although this may have some truth to it, it has been my experience working with individuals that in fact the emotional trauma actually "materializes" in a manner of speaking.
A new process called the Mind Resonance Process(TM) (MRP) which I have written about extensively about here in this ezine has the ability to permanently release negative beliefs and traumatic memories from one's mind/body in a relatively short time.
One of the unexpected and recurring surprises I have had over the last several years facilitating change in people's lives is that as they release their trauma they also in a very short time shed huge amounts of weight and all without dieting or any change in their daily routine. The fat essentially disappears!
One example of an individual shedding over 40 lbs in a matter of 2 to 3 weeks was not only a surprise to me but also to her. After close questioning she noted that there had been no change in her diet, exercise routine, or eating habits.
At first I was not sure what to make of this and wrote it off. After many other clients started experiencing the same thing I began to realize the connection between emotional trauma and obesity.
I explain it as follows.
When an individual experiences a trauma and it becomes "embedded" in their mind/body whenever they recall it they often will re-experience the hurt that goes with the trauma. What they also experience are feelings of tiredness, emotional gravity (i.e. heaviness) and a draining of their vital life energy.
It literally feels to them as if they are carrying something that is dragging them down. This is not dissimilar to carrying extra weight on board. In fact now it turns out that the "extra weight" is actually the trauma in "material form".
When an individual experiences the MRP process and releases the trauma they repeatedly feel emotionally lighter, less burdened, more energized, more peaceful, and more joyful. In addition they feel physically lighter. As strange as this may seem this latter feeling is almost spontaneously associated with a measurable weight loss.
The conclusion I am coming to may sound strange but it is something that I am in the process of researching. It is as follows:
Emotional trauma not only brings one "down" emotionally" it also brings one "down physically" by literally turning into fat.
When the trauma is released (which occurs in minutes with MRP) the fat is transformed into energy. In other words what is happening here is that mass density is decreasing while energy density is increasing.

What Are the Best Weight Loss Pills

Being overweight or obese is not just bad for our image and self-confidence but can also cause many health issues such as heart disease, stroke or diabetes. Sometimes this obesity is causes by your genetics but more often it is because you are simply eating too much or not doing enough exercise.
If you are struggling with your weight you don't have to struggle any longer with gruelling diet and exercise regimes as there are so many different weight loss pills available that can make your dieting efforts much easier.
There are many different types of weight loss pill available so unless you have tried one in the past the process of picking one may seem daunting.
You should try not to become discouraged as you can find the perfect product with a little bit of research.
Here are some of the different types of weight loss pills:
Prescription
If your BMI is above 30 you may be able to qualify for a prescription pill. Although in some circumstances you may only need a BMI of 27 to qualify.
These prescription pills vary in type and are usually only for the short term so may not be the best option if you want to see real results.
Appetite suppressants
Using an appetite suppressant can help to reduce your food cravings as they release chemicals that send messages to your brain telling it that you are full even when you are not.
Another benefit of an appetite suppressant is the fact that they often release serotonin or catecholamine that can help to elevate your moods.
Fat binders
Using a fat binder can help to stop fat from being absorbed into your body.
Once fat has been consumed it is usually separated from the other nutrients read for absorption.
With a fat binder the fat molecules are made too large to be absorbed so are removed from your body through your bowels as waste.
Metabolism boosters
Metabolism boosters are often called fat burners. They can help you to burn calories by increasing your metabolic rate.
Often people have slow metabolisms so taking a weight loss pill like this could help to kick-start their metabolism.
The problem with metabolism boosters is that sometimes powerful stimulants are used. You should always check what ingredients are used and ensure there are no side effects caused.
On the whole weight loss pills are completely safe, you should still do your own research though and not believe the hype surrounding a certain product. Your own health is more important.
Two of the best products available are Proactol Plus, a proven fat binder and Phen375, which is a powerful fat burner.

The Generation of Obese Teenagers

There are many articles in the press about obese teenagers and even obese younger children and so my article on this issue is nothing new but the fact that it is something I have in front of me everyday motivated me as something I just had to write about. So I decided to write a series of articles on this particular issue. I see it everywhere, in the classroom, on the streets, in the shops, the village where I live... just everywhere. It is also an issue that really stood out to me when I came back from Spain some months ago to return to my position as lecturer at the college.
When we returned from Spain My daughters who are 16 and 17 set about catching up with old friends after a 2 year absence and we all noticed that most of them bar a few had put on substantial amounts of weight during those 2 years. Now let me step back here to assure you... I was not being judgmental on these teenagers as people, it was just impossible not to notice the difference that this period of time had made
My job as a Health lecturer and also the fact that I have lived a large proportion of my life so far out of the UK in South Africa allows me the liberty of being able to look at different cultures and their eating habits and way of life. When I returned from South Africa to the UK in 2001 I immediately noticed the deteriorating eating habits of the younger generation and had a hard time convincing my daughters of the benefits of healthy eating. When we moved to Spain in 2010 and returned in 2012 some 2 years later..I think they got what I had been talking about all those years earlier!
The message really hit home when they were able to compare the eating habits and weight issues in the UK with a different culture where the eating habits were more healthy and overweight teenagers were infrequent and not common place
So lets get the information right from the start. Many people think that being overweight is an appearance issue. Not so of course none wants to look "fat" but being overweight is actually a medical concern because it can seriously affect a person's health. All of have body fat and a few extra pounds are not going to do us any harm but when experts use the term overweight they are talking about much more than just a few pounds. There are very few people who are not aware of the health problems like Diabetes and heart disease that come with people overweight but the problems range much further. Being overweight can affect a persons joints, breathing, sleep, mood, and energy levels. All of these problems can impact a person's entire quality of life. More people are overweight today than ever before. We are experiencing an "obesity epidemic." So younger people are now developing health problems that used to affect only adults, like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and type 2 diabetes.
So how does one become overweight? its actually not as simple as you think... but then it never is. My next article will discuss the issues that result in weight gain.

How to Deal With Obesity Simply and Effectively

Obesity is not an eating problem. Obesity is an emotional problem. We eat to give ourselves rewards. We eat to calm our nerves. We eat to stay busy. We eat to occupy our hands when we can't think of anything to do. We eat to punish ourselves. We eat because it gains us some attention. We eat because our society equates big with healthy in some cases. The kids love fast food; therefore I'm a good parent because I give them what makes them happy.
Obesity is triggered by thoughts that are harmful to you. We need calming; we need to be rewarded; we need to do something. Before obesity becomes debilitating we need to do something about it. There is a direct link between obesity and diabetes, obesity and heart attacks, obesity and strokes - and any of those can kill you.
So agree with me that obesity is triggered by thoughts. Check it out for yourself. What is the first thing you do before grabbing a bag of chips or a soft drink? You THINK, "That looks good;" or "I need that (whatever)." You do this time and again throughout your day and the fat builds up and up and up!
So, when thoughts are harmful to us, the answer is simple: DON'T think those thoughts!
The next time the desire to eat something pops into your mind, I want you to immediately say to yourself, out loud, "I'm not going to think about that." If it recurs, say it again.
I think you'll discover that the negative thought will go away. It will go away every time you demand that it go away.
This solution is so simple that many people have trouble accepting it. The most effective way to control harmful thinking is to say to yourself out loud, "I will not to think about that." Do it as often as necessary and do it out loud.
Someone said, "That's easier said than done."
Not really. You have the innate authority to decide what you want to think about. If a thought is harmful to you, don't think that thought. It's your choice. As you make that choice again and again, your subconscious remembers how you like to respond and will start to make your response automatically. It's amazing how quickly this can happen.
Let me share three simple rules that you can use to teach your subconscious to help you even more to deal with your obesity:
  1. When you're tempted to step on the scale (another thought), say out loud to yourself, "I only weigh myself once a week." Set a time that's convenient, say Sunday morning before you dress for church. If you think about weighing yourself any other time, say "I only weigh myself once a week." This will keep you from being discouraged on the days when you don't show any weight loss.

  2. If you are hungry, you must eat. Say to yourself, out loud, whenever it crosses your mind (but at least several times a day), "I eat when I'm hungry and no other time." But you must be honest with yourself. There's a difference in true hunger and simply wanting to eat something. If you ate a meal an hour ago, it is not logical that you are hungry again. Use this rule as often as required.

  3. If the family is sitting down to eat or you're going out with friends and you're not hungry, get yourself a cup of tea or a flavored beverage and enjoy the company. Don't let well-meaning people coerce you into eating with them. Say, "I'm really not hungry and when I'm not hungry, I do not eat anything at all, regardless of when or where I am." Be kind; be cordial; but be firm with your friends and with yourself.
When you have the urge to eat and you know that you're not hungry, you can drink a bottle of water or a cup of tea to ease the desire to eat.
Say these three rules to yourself, out loud, several times a day. Before long, your subconscious will be dealing with your thoughts of eating automatically.
Don't give in to the temptation to try helper fads. Rule 1 keeps you from discouragement. Rule 2 assures that you're getting enough food for good health, and rule 3 lets you enjoy life with family and friends without feeling guilty. You don't need anything else to help you. You're capable of doing this all by yourself by teaching your subconscious to work with you.
As a bonus, allow yourself to be a little proud of yourself every time you use the rules.
Nothing could be more effective than having your subconscious mind control your impulse eating for you before you even think about it.

How Do People Eat So Many Green Vegetables On The Medifast Diet?

I get a lot of emails from people who have concerns about complying with the Medifast lean and green meal. Basically, this is the main meal that you make each day which includes lean protein and vegetables. This sounds simple enough but some people get hung up on the specifics of it. And a common concern is eating all of those vegetables.
I heard from someone who said: "I am wondering how people fit in all of those greens on the Medifast lean and green meal. I will be honest. I do not like vegetables. I will not have any problem coming up with the lean protein part of the meal. But I am lost on that many vegetables. How do people do it?" I will address these concerns below.
You Are Only Looking At Three Small Servings Of A Wide Variety Of Vegetables:Many people have the perception that the vegetables that they chose must be green. They truly don't. Yes, some of the non green vegetables have more starch so you want to use those a little more sparingly. But there are countless vegetables that are fair game and many of them are downright tasty. Basically, you get a larger serving (1 cup) of green vegetables and a smaller serving (1/2 cup) of vegetables that are less green.
I understand not liking vegetables. I was not a big fan either. But honestly, if you are going to embrace a healthier lifestyle with the intention of keeping the weight off, then you need to look at them a little differently. They are necessary for good health and for maintaining a healthy weight and when prepared correctly, they are delicious.
Here's some suggestions. I personally adore red peppers. I actually prefer them raw. But they are also wonderful in a simple stir fry of onions, mushrooms and peppers. (I also love this combination in an omelet with eggs being my protein for that meal.) Also, you can buy this or other similar combinations frozen if you want so that all you have to do is heat them up.
Another possibility is a simple salad of lettuce, cucumbers and carrots or broccoli. (And if you are in a hurry can you add some lean chicken and have a salad as your meal. I also know that many people buy these from a store or drive through restaurant as long as you are careful with the dressing.) Steamed vegetables can also be a wonderful way to quickly get a lot of vegetables. Think about peas with cauliflower and asparagus. I even know of people having simple tomato soup with some leftover vegetables thrown in. Speaking of tomatoes, sliced juicy tomatoes with basil is absolutely delicious.
I know that many people assume that vegetables are very bland. But there are a couple of things that you can do to counter this. You don't want to over cook or over steam them. I eat them raw quite often for this reason. You don't want for them to be limp. Instead, they taste better crisp in my opinion. I also use seasonings. I know a lot of people like fresh herbs but I really like Cajun seasonings or hot sauce on mine. Some people use lemon juice. As long as you aren't adding sugar, fat, or carbs, experiment and see what tastes good to you.
The whole idea is for this to be very flexible so that you can learn to make lot of choices that give you a lot of variety. You don't want to force yourself to eat something you aren't going to like because then you aren't likely to continue it. And the whole idea is cultivating a healthier lifestyle that you can maintain once the weight is lost.

Fitness: Healthy Living As A Habit

There are so many words that are conjured up when we think of fitness. Healthy, in shape and lifestyle come to mind immediately. There is another word that needs to be there as well: Habit. Fitness and healthy living are not something that you decide to do for a weekend. They are something you do for life.
Some folks are lucky in that from the time they were very young, they lived a life of fitness and healthy choices. Being healthy for them as an adult comes naturally because it is something that they have done their whole lives. For the rest of us, choosing fitness as a lifestyle is a conscious decision that has required a lot of thought and effort on our part. Some of us will struggle with how to accomplish this healthy lifestyle for nearly our whole lives.
A lifestyle change requires a lot of effort. Consider the word, lifestyle. The style of your life. Generally it's not something that you can just change overnight. It's going to take some effort on your part. You will be making a lot of decisions about what to eat, what kinds of exercises to do, which health club to join and what your daily routine will include. When your goal is fitness, healthy lifestyle choices will need become habits.
A habit seems to be a double edged sword. For things that are not necessarily good for us, habits seem to come easy. Stopping by the coffee shop for that latte every morning required seemingly no effort at all. Smoking became a habit in a snap. Healthy choices can become a habit too, it's just a matter of choice and motivation.
If you do make the decision to make fitness a part of your life, you need to establish the choices that are part of fitness as part of your daily routine. In other words, you need to make them a habit. When your motivation to become healthy is strong, the habits are much easier to cement in place. This means that you need to think about what is motivating this lifestyle change. Is it something that you really want to do or is it something you are being told to do? It would be hard to argue with the fact that a healthy lifestyle is good for you. For some of us, that's good enough motivation. Others may need more incentive since this lifestyle change is a radical departure from what is normal for them.
Establishing a lifestyle change as habit may involve setting goals, seeking nutritional counseling, hiring a trainer and completely rearranging our daily schedule. If the motivation is strong, these things are easier to accomplish.
The bottom line is that if living with fitness, healthy lifestyle choices and overall good health is a strong enough goal for you, then the establishment of habits will be required and with the right motivations can be accomplished.

Obesity - The Truth

Recent statistics have proven that up to 75% of the population of the USA suffer from obesity. Are you one of the fat ones? Are you happy being fat?
Obesity does not happen overnight. It is a gradual process that takes control as your body suffers from the abuse inflicted upon it on a daily basis. The only people that benefit from this situation are the manufacturers of the fast food industry that causes the problem and the only guarantees of living this way is that your children will collect their inheritance much sooner than expected. With this in mind your family must be considered. The pain and grief that will be inflicted on them by your premature death can easily be avoided.
If you are one of these statistics and choose to ignore the media coverage of this condition it must be remembered that you live in the most powerful country in the world that can control almost anything except the spiralling weight of its population.
Needless to say, this is an embarrassment for all concerned and although there has been a great deal of successful research into many life threatening illnesses and complaints, getting the message across to the masses regarding the problems that can be caused by being obese is proving to be extremely difficult. The simple step of signing up to a weight loss program can make a vast difference and greatly improve your quality of life.
But there is only one person that can take you out of your comfort zone and that is yourself. By failing to take action you are settling for second best. Nothing is achieved without effort. The only way to overcome obesity is to change your way of life, starting by respecting the body you have been blessed with and the wishes of those nearest and dearest to you.
Eating healthily is one of the most important objectives that must be undertaken. By doing this you are reducing the intake of harmful fats and preservatives that are so commonly used in the manufacture of fast processed foods today.
Any exercise, regardless of how minimal, is far better than none at all. A steady walk, a gentle swim; either would be of great benefit. Furthermore, all of these actions could help to reduce your weight to an acceptable level. Additional help can be obtained by responding to weight loss tips and plans that are in place to help over weight people.
The time to take control of your life is now. Before it is too late and your mobility is taken away from you by one of the many serious illnesses that can be brought about by being obese. Do not become a burden to your loved ones by not taking control of your life. Improve the way you live and set an example to the younger members of your family.
