Overweight? Your Self-Esteem Is Important - Love Yourself

There are three types of people. Those who're quite contented to be couch potatoes, those who're unhappy with the excess weight but do nothing about it and those who KNOW that only way to weightloss, health & fitness is to TAKE ACTION.
Those who take action are the ones who usually have a mountain of self-confidence. They acknowledge they need to lose weight, set a goal to achieve the ideal weight and fitness, then go all out to get there - and they normally do.
I've seen too many overweight people convince themselves that they're unattractive or abnormal. I think that's a shame because it undermines their self-esteem.
The effect of this is a lack of self-confidence, self pity and depression. This is reflected by the social awkwardness shown by many people who perceive themselves as unattractive just because they're overweight.
Y'know what? That's nonsense! YOU'VE GOTTA LOVE YOURSELF FIRST! Sure, you could lose a few pounds but you're as good as anyone else.
HOW DO YOU TELL THIS TO THE WORLD?
1. TAKE ACTION. Get on a diet program. The mere fact that you're doing something about your weight is a morale booster by itself.
2. WALK TALL. Yes! improve your posture. Lose the slouch. It makes your stomach look higher than it really is. Raise your head and stick out your chest. Show your new confidence in your posture. If you were to hire someone, who would you choose? The skinny person with the loser slouch or the overweight person whose posture says he or she can take on the Incredible Hulk?
3. ACT CONFIDENT (EVEN IF YOU DON'T QUITE FEEL IT). Practice this often enough, and it'll become a habit. Your confidence must be reflected in your walk (brisk, firm strides),speech (clear voice, good vocabulary, NO self-depreciating words), as well as your body language (good posture, appropriate gestures, good eye contact). You should also start on an exercise program. In addition to the weightloss and health benefits, your confidence will hit the roof. There are some good ebooks on weightloss, health and fitness you can get which contain great fatburning programs.
4. DRESS NEATLY & APPROPRIATELY - ALWAYS. Take pride in your appearance. It's the first impression of you the other person will get before he or she even speaks to you. Wear solid colors and avoid stripes - particularly horizontal stripes and wear pants with flared bottoms.
5. MAKE SURE YOUR BODY ODOUR IS PLEASANT. Believe it or not most people decide whether they like you or not by your body odour more than anything else. Have you ever been complimented about your perfume or cologne by someone you don't even know? Most of us have.
The human body secrets pheromones which blend with our colognes or perfumes to attract men or attract women. Some people produce more than others so that explains why some are more successful in romance than others. Pheromones are known to cause those of the opposite sex to become more receptive - even flirtatious towards poeple they don't even know. The good news is you can now get pheromones in a bottle.
Man, I'm having a good time writing this article because this is one of my favorite topics. I think I'll quit at this point though, and leave some tidbits for my other articles.
Remember, love yourself and TAKE ACTION. Make your journey towards weightloss, health and fitness a rewarding and enjoyable one.

A Guide to Carbohydrates and Weight Loss

Carbohydrates are nutrients that your body breaks down to create sugar. Like other nutrients, carbohydrates also provide vitamins and minerals. But what does this have to do with losing weight?
Why Does The Body Need Sugar?
The cells in our body use sugar to make energy and your brain runs off of it exclusively for fuel. So, just like gas for your car, carbohydrates keeping the motor running. And while it is also true your body can run off fat and protein for a while, it will eventually need to switch back to carbohydrates, otherwise it will start eating its own muscle for fuel - not a good idea when dieting since it lowers your overall rate at which your body burns calories.
Two Kinds of Fuel
There are two types of carbohydrates: simple and complex. Simple carbohydrates are easily absorbed and provide quick energy to the body. Have you ever reached for a candy bar when you were feeling tired? That's you feeding your body simple carbohydrates to get the boost you needed. More examples of simple carbohydrates are honey, breakfast cereals, breads and biscuits made with white flour, fruit juice, and most crackers.
Complex carbohydrates aren't as quickly digested as your body since they usually contain fiber and as a result, don't cause the spikes in blood sugar. They also carry a lot more nutrients than simple sugars. Some examples of complex carbohydrates include whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and legumes.
There has been a lot of talk about carbohydrates and how they hinder weight loss. To a certain extent that is true - if you eat too many carbs, then your body will end up storing them as fat. In addition, when you continue to go overboard on carbs, you become sluggish, overweight and retain water. But here's the thing: you body needs carbohydrates to fuel your brain, to create red blood cells (a key component of blood) and to repair wounds. So how much is too much?
Recent scientific studies show that daily carbohydrate intake between 100 grams and 150 grams per day is right where you want to be; enough carbs to run your body in a healthy, efficient manner but not get in the way of weight loss. Of course, if you are exercising strenuously on a daily basis, are recovering from illness or surgery, or have other health issues like diabetes, your optimum carbohydrate intake level may be different - and in some case, dramatically different. It's best to check with your doctor to be sure.

Do you mind if I tell you a quick story?
When I first got started with diet and exercise, I found myself jumping on all kinds of fad diets and fitness gimmicks to try and improve my body... and got nowhere! Then, one day, I said enough is enough and I just stopped using diets and just started living a healthier lifestyle instead.
Well, I thought I was doing all the right things, and I thought I was smart for doing so. I ate all the right foods and was doing the right types of exercises in the gym.
Guess what?
In the beginning my results were AMAZING! I was losing weight and body fat like crazy!
Guess what else?
Shortly thereafter, my results stopped coming in!
That's right, my results just seemed to come to a stand-still!
At this point I was getting extremely frustrated and was about to throw in the towel until I came across this fat loss system that was based around a very interesting principle. This principle is called "shifting calories".
Basically, what this principle is centered around is keeping your body from getting accustomed to your eating patterns. In turn, this will keep your metabolism running fast.
And then it hit me...
In order to maximize your fat loss results, you must MIX... IT... UP!
That right there my friend are the 3 little words to remember if you want to get amazing results! You must mix it up with both fitness and your diet.
Once I had that big "revelation", I changed up my fitness routines on a weekly basis, and I did this shifting calories program that was based around alternating what types of foods I ate on a daily basis.
Now guess what happened?
You got it... the results started coming back again!
In fact, I was getting better results than I ever had before. In the end, I wound up dropping 52 pounds of fat, and I improved my overall health!
So, if you want to ensure you get results, then the first thing I recommend you do is avoid going on any type of fad diet...
Second, I recommend that you choose some type of nutritional program based on mixing up your calorie patterns...
And lastly, I recommend that you switch up the intensity of your workouts and the type of workouts you do on a weekly basis. This in turn should lead to you getting that body you've always wanted in no time!
So, if you want to EASILY Melt Away Fat FAST and permanently lose 9 pounds every 11 days, then the diet I used and highly recommend is the "calorie shifting diet" from Fat Loss 4 Idiots...
I lost an amazing 52 lbs. of fat in 2 months (plus flattened my belly) using this popular online fat loss program... and it all has stayed off FOR GOOD! It works extraordinarily well and easily because it naturally raises your metabolism by having you eat REAL FOOD!

Your Guide to Eating Out for Low Carb Diet

Dieting can be stressful if you are constantly worried about which foods you can and can't eat. Eating out while dieting can sometimes be a nightmare. However, eating out on a low carb diet is just the opposite. It is very easy to adapt food from almost any cuisine at any restaurant to suit a low carb way of eating.
Just remembering three things will keep you on track when you eat out:
1. Know what you can eat, and what to avoid!
2. Plan ahead!
3. Stick to your guns!

Eating low carb means you actually have a lot of flexibility with your diet. Knowing which foods to avoid makes it easier to eat out without trying to guess what is acceptable. Great choices to look for when eating out include meats that are not breaded or battered, vegetables, salads, and fish that is not battered. Potatoes are generally off the menu, but why not try extra veggies instead? Consider eating 'outside the box'. If you want a juicy burger, go ahead and have it, without the bun. Replace the fries with carrot sticks to round out your meal. Salads offer unlimited options, as almost any meats and vegetables can be thrown in, and many restaurants offer some type of salad on their menu. Steak and mixed vegetables are always a great choice, and tasty, too!
Perhaps the most overlooked key to successfully eating out on a low carb diet is planning ahead. This simple step can save a lot of stress and worry. You'll already know what you can eat, so the next step is finding out what is on offer at the place you want to eat at. Go online to view menus ahead of time. You can even call the restaurant and ask questions about food preparation and ingredients. This way, you will be armed with the info needed to make good food choices. This step eliminates the stress and worry over what you'll order once you arrive, so you will be able to focus on enjoying your meal!
The most important thing you can do when eating out low carb is to stick to it. Many are tempted by the bread basket, teased by the desert tray, and give in to the pressure to be 'normal'. Maybe you don't want to seem demanding. Whatever the reason, just remember, you deserve to feel healthy and be happy. If it helps, consider your low carb diet the same as anyone that requires a special diet for a medical condition. There will be some foods you just can't eat, but don't be afraid to ask for the ones you can!
With more people choosing to eat low carb, restaurants are adjusting many of their menu items to accommodate. There are lots of great options available if you want to eat out and enjoy low carb foods. Knowing what you can eat, planning ahead, and sticking to it will keep you on track with your low carb diet. Use these simple steps to enjoy eating out on a low carb diet anytime!

Deep And Intelligent Tips Of Weight Loss

When we talk about weight loss, the most important thing we should care about is the way we eat; if we have healthy eating habits, we will have the shape we want and the fitness we deserve...
Let's start with the fat burning matter: Why are there some people who eat more than others, but are not fat at all? The answer is the "fat burning process." If you are able to motivate the fat burning process, making it faster and more efficient, then you won't gain extra weight even though you eat more. Yeah, this is possible.
And now we will talk about how we can stimulate the fat burning process. Here's some advice:
1) -Move more; try to be active
2) -Work out at least 30 minutes a day and keep diong this
3) -From the time to time, try going somewhere without your car
4) -Be active all the time:

Examples:
· When you're calling someone on the phone, don't stay seated, but keep walking during the call
· Park your car and walk home
· Always remember that you should be more active

5) Another way that helps fast fat burning is "spicy food", but don't over eat that kind of food, and you know why not.
Now take this great information:
· For a short duration after eating, the fat burning process performance becomes 50% more efficiently than normal

How to use and benefit from this information:
If you normally eat three times a day, make it six... but beware! Don't eat a large amount. The total you eat in three meals, eat in six; this is the concept. And this way you benefit the maximum from the fat burning process.

And I can advise you, to burn more fat you should drink tea and coffee. Just so you know, tea is okay, but don't over-do the coffee; just use for your health!
Another good way to burn fat fast is "Sports Intensity". This way helps you burn fat while exercising and when you finish, after a short duration you will burn more and more, so maybe this last step is the best. So even though it's tough and most people dislike it, you know you have to do it for your health, your shape, your life. Do you deserve it or not?

Simple Exercises You Must Try For Fab Abs

If you want to be a chick magnet, the first thing that should top your priority list is getting rock hard abs. If you are not keen on splurging astronomical sums of money on gym memberships, then this article will be of interest to you.
Right food to eat
No exercise is going to render any desired results, unless you do not cut down on the fat loaded munchies that you so love. Eat small-portioned meals often; rather than eating three heavy meals a day, eat 5 to 6 small meals throughout the day. Your meals should be low on calories and high on proteins, carbohydrates, and fiber.
If you are truly devoted to achieving fab abs, then you might need to cut back on booze. This might be hard for some people, but guzzling alcohol will only add rolls of flab around your waistline.
There are certain foods that will help you build mass. The miracle foods that should be a part of your everyday diet include nuts, chicken, salmon and other fish, spinach, fresh fruits, milk, and dairy products. These foods are packed with essential minerals, proteins and carbohydrates that will help you achieve that coveted lean body.
Tried and tested exercises
There is nothing worse than a saggy stomach with rolls of fat. Hardening your abdominal muscles has numerous benefits. Well-toned abdominal muscles will improve your upper body posture and body strength.
Crunches are a simple yet effective way to harden abdominal muscles. Crunches can be done in three different ways -regular crunches, reverse crunches, and side crunches.
Regular crunches - stretch out on the floor, bend your knees, and place your hands behind your head. While exhaling, lift your shoulders and upper back off the floor, tightening your abdominal muscles while coming up. Hold the position for 2 seconds before inhaling and returning to your normal position. Beginners can do the crunches 12 times before steadily increasing the counts and reps overtime.
Reverse crunches - reverse crunches are a great way to strengthen your lower abdominal muscles. Lie on the floor; and place your hands to the side of your body, palm down. Raise your knees in towards your chest, until your knees are bent 90 degrees. Remember, in this position your knees will be perpendicular to the floor, whereas your legs will be parallel to the floor. While inhaling, lift your knees to your head, and contracting your abdominal muscles lift your hips off the floor. Hold the position for a few seconds and lower your body to its original position while exhaling. Do the reps 15 to 20 times per set.
Side crunches - side crunches is exceptional way to work out both your abs and sides at the same time. Stretch out in the normal crunch position. Your back should be flat on the ground; your knees should be bent so that your feet are flat on the ground. Place your hand behind your head. Lift your shoulders and head off the floor like you do in normal crunches. Hold the position and bend sideways. Your hip and waist should remain stationed to the floor. When you bend, your elbow should be able to touch your hips. Slowly come back to the normal position and repeat the steps on the other side.
Trying the simple exercises everyday is sure to get you that toned and chiselled abs you have been lusting after.

Another Dieting Angle

The plastic beauties on Page 3, with pencil thin figures are a bunch of motley species leading the run-of-the-mill wannabe models and tinsel town hopefuls on a dieting spree, bordering on starvation that can lead these eye candies, in the offing, to the brink of total exhaustion and extinction. They are like hungry news hounds waiting to devour the latest tidbits and sound bytes on weight loss tips thrown around by the fashionitas of the pretentious beauty industry. But whether you like them or hate them, you can't just ignore them; after all, who dare play the blame game, when all they have is the drive and ambition to look no less gorgeous than their role models.
In the quest for a life less ordinary, with stars in their eyes and diet pills in their diet, they hit the gym, looking for perfection. Perfection? Yes the young brigade is obsessed with the clinical precision and flawlessness of their physical existence. They are an ambitious lot and they can go to all lengths to accomplish their well-crafted physical plans. But sadly their focus is misdirected, and there is no telling where their ends are with so misplaced a means. They have been looking for excellence in the physical realm, which for sure, is neither long lasting nor immortal. Real perfection would come only when you make a conscious effort to nourish and enrich the consciousness, the soul.
What about making a sincere effort to attain the purest diet for the well being of the body, soul and the mind? Instead of making concerted efforts to stick to rigid dietary guidelines and berating ourselves every time we fail to keep up the standard, we could let our palate run free for once to have the food that our body loves. We fear of the unknown, we fear that overweight and obesity would strike us and take their toll on us. Such fears drive us up the wall, and we begin looking for ways like dieting, drugs and other therapies to prevent the catastrophe falling on us, imposing rules and regulations to frame our existence.
We place due importance on the perfect physical nutrients for our bodily nourishment. What if we go a step ahead and place love and care over the nutrients? In a different plane, we can tenderly care for our body by delving into the deeper and richer sources of well being. Like a child responding positively to the affectionate and compassionate gestures of a mother, our body would maintain a state of perfect poise and harmony when we put our trust in the inborn intelligence of our body.
With the gradual corruption and materialization of the human mind, we have tagged each food item with a moral value even before we take the first bite. Depriving ourselves of foods that bring sensory and sensual delights has become ingrained in us. We feel that we our virtue helps us to attain physical perfection by suppressing the vices of taking a bite of the cake. Our mind is closeted in the very dark and pessimistic thought that pleasure brings pain, satisfying and gratifying food makes us overweight and obese.
Our mind is in state of joy and accomplishment after a very hearty meal, enjoyed with our heart and mind. Our spiritual state is at its peak, fully nourished, when our mind is filled with love and joy, free of the redundancies and idiosyncrasies of life. And a nourished and vitalized spirit is the key to the well being of our physical and external attributes.
The crowd that constantly ebbs and flows day in and day out of the-state-of-the-art gyms, keeping away from anything that is delicious should pick a line from the beautiful mother-child relationship. Shower love and care to the body, and let the body intuitively respond to what is best for us at the moment, with its innate wisdom. We need to appreciate every bite we take with gay abandon. When we value the love and wisdom of the body, our body would lead us to the food it needs.

Eyelid Surgery - Who Needs It?

Do you have bags and excess skin around your eyes? If so, you may be a candidate for blepharoplasty commonly known as eyelid surgery.
Everyone wants to look as good as they can. This surgery is generally a cosmetic choice. But it's a very effective method to improve vision in older people when the skin around their eyes begins to impede their sight.
This type of procedure was not designed to remove dark circles, fine lines and wrinkles on the face or the crow's feet that pop up in the outer corners of the eyes. It can be done in conjunction with other cosmetic techniques such as filler injections, forehead lifts or laser resurfacing.
THE AGING PROCESS
If you've reached a certain age, you've probably already discovered your skin is losing some of its elasticity. Gravity also plays a role in causing excess skin to accumulate and sag on both the lower and upper eyelids. Excess skin forms bulges and wrinkles and vision can be impaired as the extra flap of skin begins to hang over the eyelashes.
ARE YOU A GOOD CANDIDATE?
Here are a few good ways to discover if you're a good candidate:
- Good, overall general health.
- Realistic expectations.
- 35+ years old (This is not necessarily a criteria but most candidates have reached around that age or older.)
- Heredity.

ARE THE RESULTS PERMANENT?
Upper eyelid surgery has an average lifespan of at least five to seven years. Lower eyelid surgery probably will never need to be repeated. Keep in mind, that even though you opt for this procedure, you'll still continue to age and have signs of aging. The good news is that if the skin in this area begins to sag again, another common procedure known as a forehead lift can alleviate this issue.
PREPARATION FOR EYELID SURGERY
Prepare first of all by having a friend or family member drive you to and from your procedure. Someone should plan to stay with you for the first night after the procedure. And, do not take a taxi or bus or any other means of transportation where the person driving can't stay with you in case of emergency.
Following the procedure, you'll need to take some time off from work and limit your normal, daily activities for a few days. A slightly uncomfortable, but not painful, side effect may be dry eye syndrome. This doesn't usually last more than a few weeks and your doctor can give you a prescription for some drops. At home, have an ice pack, clean towels and washcloths and non-prescription painkillers on hand.
Eyelid surgery can indeed improve your appearance. Your self-confidence level can soar as a result of it. It's crucial to sit down and talk with your board-certified plastic surgeon to get all of your questions answered beforehand. At this time, you can discuss your goals with him or her as well and be on the road to a better you before you know it.

How to Get Better At Any Sport

Every sport is very different and every sport has a range of unique benefits and plus points that its fans appreciate it for. Some sports involve completely different skills and really have very little in common - and if you are someone who plays snooker for instance then you won't necessarily be particularly good necessarily at football.
But even though sports can be completely different, there are still things you can do to improve your ability in all of them and things you can do that would benefit both a golf player and athletic runner. Here we will look at some ways you can train and some tips you can take on board that will help you improve in any sport.
Practice
The first tip no matter your sport is to practice. The more you practice the more you'll develop the specific muscles you need for that sport, the more you'll get used to the technique and the less nervous you'll feel performing. This is the single most important way to improve skill in any sport - and in fact pretty much any ability.
Visualization
Some sports are harder to practice than others. If you don't have an ice rink in your back garden for instance, then practicing ice hockey is going to be pretty difficult. As such then you may be able to benefit from using visualisation when training which basically means that you practice your technique using your mind's eye. Interestingly you will cause the same neural networks to fire as though you were actually playing the sport and this can help you to perfect your technique.
Muscle Building/Fitness
Of course building muscle and improving your fitness can improve your ability in most athletic endeavours and it can also help you to be more effective in sports that involve running and jumping. What might surprise you though is that it can also help games like golf and darts. How? By strengthening the supportive muscles in your arms and torso giving you finer control over your movements and so better aim. Likewise improving your fitness in general can help you to feel physically more able and so be less likely to get distracted by tiredness. A lot of darts players are overweight, but actually they'd perform better if they had a little more energy.
Playing Other Sports
Surprisingly learning other sports can help you in your chosen field of expertise. Most sports involve a range of different skills and many of these can be extrapolated and applied to others. Whether you learn better aim for football from playing bowling, or you increase your reactions for dodge ball from martial arts.
Psychology
Most sports are far more psychological than you realise and your ability to focus, to calm nerves and to block out distractions will greatly influence your performance. If you want to increase your ability in any sports then you should learn to better know your own mind and achieve a flow state where you focus only on what you're doing. If you can manipulate the psychology of your opponents too then even better...
Another way to improve your performance in any sport is to get better sporting equipment. Click here for second hand sporting equipment so that you can afford top of the range equipment.

Healthy Eating Tips That You Did Not Know

It's obvious everyone should be trying to live a healthy well balanced lifestyle so that you can maintain good health and live a long fulfilled life. Diets and eating healthy really don't need to be that difficult. I think a lot of people break their healthy eating routines and diets because they set the bar too high and make these exceptionally strict eating plans instead of thinking of dieting as more of a lifestyle change. Healthy food can be really tasty and doesn't need to be boring in the slightest. I have provided a couple of healthy eating tips below.
Fruit and Vegetables
We should be eating around five different vegetables and fruits on a daily basis which can sound quite daunting at first. It's really a lot easier than you think because you can just have fruit with your breakfast and have mixed vegetables at night with whatever meal you decide to cook for dinner. You can find a number of books from online health shops about fruit and vegetables.
Fish is great
Fish contains many vital vitamins, minerals and has a very high protein content which is great for weight loss since protein takes a lot more energy to digest than carbohydrates. Fish also contains essential fats such as omega 3 fats. These are known to decrease the risk of heart disease drastically. You can also keep fish in the freezer and not have to worry about going to the shop every day to purchase the freshest fish on the market.
Decrease Your Fat Intake
Fat is essential in any diet, but there are different kinds of fat that are either good or bad for you. We have both saturated and unsaturated. Too much saturated fat will increase your cholesterol levels which will increase your risk of heart disease. These fats are usually found in chocolates, chips, biscuits and cakes. Unsaturated fats are found in vegetable oils, fish and avocados. When you cooking meat make sure to use only a little bit of oil or butter.
Reduce Your Salt Intake
You will be surprised how much salt there is in the food you are currently eating. Try not to add too much salt to your food as this will likely increase your blood pressure fairly drastically. Having high blood pressure will increase your risk of having a stroke or heart disease.
Start Exercising
Probably the most important part of a healthy lifestyle is trying to do lots of exercise. This is great for your heart and blood flow. Chances of heart disease will increase drastically with lots of exercise.

What Is Your Daily Calorie Allowance?

Some of us are numbers folks. We like the tangible, the finite, the prove-it-with-a-formula-and-I'll-believe-it mindset.
Honestly, there's nothing to be ashamed of about that. Personally I lean towards the numbers side just because it's something that can be counted and tracked. Sometimes numbers can work in our favor and help motivate us to push forward and strive for more.
For instance, if you were to time yourself when running a mile and find that you can accomplish that distance in 7.35 minutes, you have a specific number now. Having that now gives you additional motivation since you will strive to beat this amount the next time you test. You can then train for another week or two then re-test to see if you beat your initial test time.
All this possible because of keeping track of the numbers.
As I was personally gaining momentum during the first few months of the weight loss process, I naturally began to focus on eating in a more healthy manner because I knew that I had to get a strong handle on the types and the amounts of food I was putting into my body. This was priority number one especially since my eating habits for the past decade have been nothing but gluttonous.
Even though I knew for the most part what was considered to be healthy, I was still unaware of the amount of food I should be consuming on a daily basis. Therefore I was inevitably led to begin focusing on the amount of calories I was eating per day.
Now you may be wondering why it would be important to know how many calories you should eat daily if all you are planing to eat is healthy, nutritious food. Surprising as it sounds, even overeating on healthy food will not guarantee effective weight loss since your body will still be taking in an excess amount of calories.
Therefore a few months back, I started using one of those handy calorie counter websites that also had a phone application to use all for FREE! I simply inputted some of my physical statistics, job type, and exercise habits, and was then provided with a calorie amount I should strive to eat daily.
In other words, if I were to stick with this daily calorie amount as best as possible, I would lose weight each and every week.
Best yet, I can use this calorie counter/application to look up the nutritional content of food items I plan on eating. This is where a calorie app. really comes in handy especially for those times when I've been tempted to eat from a fast food spot. On more than one occasion when I found out the nutritional content of an unhealthy choice, it made the decision to avoid that option far easier.
For example, once I had the thought of a Double Quarter Pounder With Cheese Meal, I plugged the meal into My Fitness Pal app and I found out this ONE meal has 1,570 calories along with 67 grams of fat and 1,900 mg of sodium! After learning this valuable information it made changing my mind for something else much easier to do.
If you are interested in learning what your daily calorie amount is for FREE, simply go to http://MyFitnessPal.com and see what they offer. You can even use their FREE app if you have a smartphone such as an iPhone, Blackberry, or Droid. It literally just takes a few moments to set up your user account in order to learn your daily calorie allowance which will help you stick with your weight loss agenda.

Diet: Changing Your Focus

Have you ever decided to take a trip somewhere relatively unfamiliar? Suddenly, everywhere you look, there is something about your planned destination. Turn on a television travel channel and it is featured. Pick up a newspaper and there is an article about it. Why this sudden universal interest in somewhere you had never really thought much about?
That is the secret: you were not previously thinking about it. The subject was always out there but you didn't -attend so you didn't notice. We are surrounded by so much stimulation and information that we cannot grasp more than a fraction of what comes into our environment. We filter out the vast majority of that stimuli by our own interests and by our lack of interest. Become involved in a new field and what you thought was a rather narrow and under-developed subject is revealed as a worldwide, enormous, fully developed area in which you are a novice surrounded by experts who appear to be widely known and respected -- the "gurus" of the new field -- but you have never heard of them before.
Changing your interests changes your world because your filters have been reshaped. It frequently happens spontaneously when something you see or hear hits an internal chord, intrigues you, and drags your thoughts in new directions.
It may also happen by necessity when you are forced to explore new areas in order to accomplish a different goal. For example, I wrote for years. I never thought outside the box of traditional publishing which says submit to the commercial publishers and hope that after an unbelievable number of rejections, something will stick. One day on the internet, I found self-publishing and walked into a vast universe I knew nothing about. Once published, I was forced to foray into the world of publicity that I always thought was a small field encompassing celebrities and public personalities. The depth and breadth of information and resources was overwhelming. After many months of trolling, I have still only scraped the surface.
What is this leading to? If we change our world outlook spontaneously or by necessity, WHY NOT CHANGE IT BY DESIGN?
If I often think about food then my world is filled with food-related stimuli. I watch and attend to food commercials, cooking shows, recipe sources, new restaurants, cookware, and "utterly amazing" kitchen gadgets. If I consider myself a gourmet, I scrutinize the appearance of the dish and the sophistication of the ingredients. If I am on a diet, I scan the details of how many carbohydrates, how much fat, how many grams of protein, the total caloric content. If my focus is health, I look for the vitamins, mineral, and free radical scavengers.
Wherever my particular focus lies, it doesn't really matter: IT'S ALL ABOUT FOOD!
If we want to change that, to remove food from its central role in our lives, we have to stop thinking about it. Not an easy task but it can be done, even if painful. The real question is how can we do it.
Reread the last two pages. We color our world by how we filter its input. We are going to filter out every scrap of food (excuse the pun) that we can and replace it with different input that won't make us fat.
What kind of stimuli shall we let in?
This is where we go in different directions because each individual has their own likes and dislikes. For one person, thinking about sex may be an excellent substitution, for another football may provide a pleasant diversion while another may prefer to curl up with a great mystery novel.
What is important at this point is to pick something you like to do! You're going to have plenty of time to work on the painful aspects of losing weight but at this early stage, being comfortable is of utmost importance. Leave your tendencies toward martyrdom for later.
Take your pleasure from any of these items or add your personal selections.
Reading
Sewing
Solitaire
Mah-jongg
Video games
Jigsaw puzzles
Knitting
Quilting
I hesitate to include exercise. While that is obviously a wonderful thing for your health, if it is something you love, you wouldn't be overweight. We are looking for enjoyable diversions here, not more "shoulds" and "ought-tos."

What is Real Hunger?

In order to identify hunger, you must first understand what it is. This is not as easy as it seems. Many of you may never have let yourself experience true hunger, only a feeling of discomfort. Not knowing exactly what it was, you may have been eating past hunger for such a long time you can no longer differentiate between hunger and the feeling of anxiety, stress, boredom, or any number of other emotional or circumstantial stimuli. You haven't allowed yourself to go without eating for a long enough period of time to have felt true hunger; you may not have experienced it since childhood.
Each of us is born with an innate sense of hunger. When you were a baby and felt this sensation, you cried. Your mother or caregiver pacified you with a bottle or breast, and when you were no longer hungry, you pushed the food away. Before you could speak, you made yourself understood.
As a toddler beginning to eat baby food, you were still in control of your food consumption. Your mother might have thought you had to finish everything she served, but you had other ideas. You might have clenched your little baby teeth and not permitted one extra spoonful of anything to enter your mouth. She might have pushed your chubby little cheeks together trying to force you to open your mouth, but you would not. If she did manage to insert some food, you spit it out, sometimes on your bib, sometimes on mom. The message was clear. "No more food, Mommy."
As she persevered, you finally learned to please your mother by finishing everything on your plate. You may have been told that if you ate your vegetables, your reward would be dessert. You were bribed with a lollipop if you'd stop crying. You learned to eat all your food because it gave pleasure to others. It didn't seem to matter anymore whether you were hungry or not. You were taught to ignore your feelings of hunger and satiation just to please someone else. And you learned well.
Years later, you're still keeping a friend company by sharing a meal when you're not hungry, or accepting an alcoholic beverage just to be part of the crowd, or to please a hostess.
The dictionary describes hunger as "the painful sensation or state of weakness caused by need of food." Some people become irritable, shaky, or disoriented if they are not fed at their usual mealtime. Others experience hunger as feeling lightheaded, empty, low, headachy, or hollow. At times a growling stomach prompts an eating episode. Some eat when they get depressed. Others lose their appetite when they get depressed. External stimuli are abundant, as are emotional and physical ones, yet few of these are hunger, just some other strain on your nervous system.
Human beings have a built-in fight or flight mechanism that helps them to survive. When your ancestors roamed the earth and encountered a tiger who had leaped out of the bushes, they would mobilize themselves to either fight the tiger or flee from it. Years later, you still face the tigers. A death in the family, loss of a job, or an illness may certainly have the bite of a tiger. Your pulse quickens, your mouth feels dry, your palms sweat and you revert to old behavior and try to quell the anxiety by putting something into your mouth. You also may be reacting to the fluctuations of daily life - a waiter being inept, traffic inching along, a line at the bank - that cause you to eat a box of cookies or ask for a second helping of food. You might be misidentifying a minor travail as a tiger when it is only a baby cub.
Have you had the experience of thinking you were hungry at noontime only to become absorbed in a project or in a book, and have several hours pass before you think about food again? True hunger cannot wait a few hours. It demands to be fed. You were not hungry at noon but were responding to a time of day stimulus, another reason you've given yourself to eat. If you distract yourself with some other activity, the urge usually passes within a few minutes. Try to differentiate between your hungers and your urges.
Food need not fill you up in order for you to feel satisfied. A few bites of foods you don't usually eat can be very satisfying while baskets of bread, mugs of coffee, or liter bottles of diet soda might leave you feeling hungry and unsatisfied.
It is not okay to eat when you are physically or emotionally uncomfortable. Eat when you're hungry. Stop eating when you are no longer hungry, not when you are full or there is nothing remaining on your plate. As your clothes get looser, you'll start to enjoy leaving food on your plate. It is a process that takes time to achieve. Remember:
· Volume of non-nutritious food merely stuffs and bloats but does not satisfy real hunger.
· Variety and texture along with nutrition satiates hunger.

"Trying" To Lose Weight? Don't!

Are you trying to lose weight?
If you are, STOP!
Funny thing to say coming from someone that wants to help you lose all the weight you want, right?
Actually, there's a good reason.
You see, you can't try to lose weight. Don't believe me?
OK, let's use an example. Look around where you are sitting right now and find a small object. Perhaps a pen, envelope or book. Got it?
Now, try to pick it up. Go ahead.
Is it in your hand? If it is, well, then you didn't try, you actually picked it up. If it's not in your hand, you didn't.
Simple, right?
There's no middle ground in doing. You can't "try" to do anything, it's a fallacy. You either do it, or don't do it.
The same applies to losing weight (or anything else for that matter). Saying that you'll try gives your mind fuzzy instructions, and it will return fuzzy results, results that aren't what you really want. It also gives you a "way out" if you don't achieve the goals you set out to reach.
You see, your subconscious mind doesn't interpret your directions, it just goes to work following them as complete truth. When you say you'll "try to lose weight", it will "try" to follow your instructions, which we now know is impossible.
What in fact you want, (if you really do) is to lose weight. To feel better. To have more energy. To overcome health challenges. To look great.
Now, if you say you want to lose weight and are not successful, or continue to use language that includes words like "try" or "we'll see" or "maybe", perhaps you're wired backwards.
What does that mean? Well, maybe you say that you want to lose weight, but your mind says it doesn't. Somewhere along the way you gave your mind instructions that it's too hard, or impossible, to lose the weight you want. Perhaps you're more comfortable where you are now, but know that it's the right thing to say that you want to lose weight.
If this is the case, ask yourself what beliefs you hold that are at odds with what you want. For example, "it's too hard to lose weight", "it's impossible to lose weight", "I can't lose weight because I'd have to exercise all the time", "I'll lose my friends if I lose weight", "I can't lose weight because I've always failed".
Ask yourself if in fact they are true. Are they making your life easier, or more difficult? Do these beliefs serve you or harm you?
Then, replace the old beliefs with new ones. Positive, confident statements about how you want to look and feel.
The best way to lose weight is to avoid saying you'll "try" to lose weight, and say you "will" lose weight. See yourself at your ideal weight. Imagine how great you look and feel. Use positive language and give your mind specific instructions like "I'm now happily at my ideal weight of (number of pounds) weight" or "I now happily choose to wear a size (your ideal size)".
Watch your language and self talk closely and avoid using "try". It may take constant attention at the beginning, but after a short time, you'll get used to keeping your language positive, upbeat and confident.
Your weight loss results will follow immediately, depending on how confident, committed and persistent you are in applying these exercises. The more confident, committed and persistent, the faster your results will appear.
You CAN do it!
